India to field second string team against New Zealand
After a disappointing show in the T20 World Cup 2021, the Indian team will be ready for the next assignment against New Zealand.
India and New Zealand will play three T20Is and two Test matches against each other in India. They will be playing the first T20I on 17th November in Jaipur.
New Zealand has already announced their squad for the series. However, India is yet to do the same. India might go into this series with a new set of players. Several players who are a part of the Indian squad in the ongoing T20 World Cup are likely to be rested.
The players like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul might not be there. India will also need a new skipper in the shortest format of the game after India’s last group game against Namibia. Rohit Sharma is likely to captain the Indian team in this series.
What are the Possible Changes in the Indian Team?
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the orange cap holder in the IPL 2021 season, will likely get a maiden call-up in the team. Also, in the absence of KL Rahul, he might open the innings along with Rohit Sharma. Ishan Kishan will be the third opener for the team.
Shreyas Iyer, who traveled with the Indian team to UAE as a reserve player, might also make a comeback in the middle-order. Rishabh Pant is likely to remain the wicketkeeper.
Varun Chakravarthy and Rahul Chahar, a part of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, might be there in the final squad. Axar Patel or Krunal Pandya might be the third spinner in the team.
Also, selectors are likely to drop Hardik Pandya from the team. Venkatesh Iyer, who had a breakout season during the UAE leg of the IPL, might be his replacement. The fast bowling attack will consist of Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna.
