IPL 2021: Faf du Plessis takes DRS to get 3rd umpire's review reversed

Chennai Super Kings might have lost their first game against Delhi Capitals but they ensured to ticked the right boxes in all departments against Punjab Kings in the next game. Their performances were evident when Punjab Kings struggled to score runs. Punjab Kings couldn't resist CSK's dominance as they could score just 106/8 in 20 overs.

Deepak Chahar took his bowling to the next level and dismantled PBKS' top-order with ease. He swung the ball quite perfectly and reaped rewards in the game. He picked up 4 wickets to his name, while also delivering 1 maiden over and also conceded 13 runs in his full quota of 4 overs.

Faf du Plessis takes a DRS to get the third umpire's review reversed

Chasing 107 with plenty of wickets and overs in hand, CSK were supposed to get the job done. While doing so, Faf du Plessis found the hard way as he got off to a sluggish start and couldn't switch to T20 mode. He didn't time well on this pitch.

However, he ensured to play a run-a-ball knock in the run-chase for the yellow army until the 14th over when Riley Meredith was brought into the attack. The fast bowler pitched a delivery short and the former South African captain attempted to pull it towards the square-leg region in search of a boundary.

Nonetheless, the right-handed batsman didn't make any contact with the ball. All of a sudden, Punjab players made a full-hearted appeal. Meanwhile, the straight umpire Anil Chaudhary had to make the judgement. He was so sure about nick but didn't have any idea about the height of the ball.

So, he had consulted with the third umpire and called it legal. As a result, the umpire declared Faf du Plessis 'out'. The Proteas international was surprised as he took the DRS straightaway. As the decision was taken upstairs, the third umpire checked the ultra-edge and didn't find anything on the Snickometer.

The on-field umpire had to reverse his decision. The former Proteas captain survived on the crease. He remained not out on 36 off 33 balls including 3 fours and 1 six. Moeen Ali top-scored with 46 off 31 with the help of 7 fours and a six. CSK won the game by 6 wickets.
