KS Bharat added as a backup for Wriddhiman Saha in India's squad for WTC final and England Test Series
India are all set to play against New Zealand in the first-ever ICC World Test Championship final starting from 22 June. The much-anticipated match will be played at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. It would be interesting to see which team comes on top as both teams have done well in the recent past. Both teams must be looking to register a historical win.
While New Zealand's squad is all set, India are having some changes due to fitness and recovery clearances. In the latest development, KS Bharat has been added to the squad for ICC Test Championship final and five-match Test series against England. He has been added as a backup for Wriddhiman Saha who has just recovered from COVID-19 which he caught during the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Even though Saha has recovered in time for entering into bio-bubble in Mumbai before leaving for UK on June 2. Still, BCCI decided to include Bharat in the squad as a safety measure considering COVID-19 guidelines. Speaking to ANI, sources said it's a precautionary step keeping in mind Saha's recovery and fitness for 3 month-long tour.
“He was added as cover for Saha considering he was still recovering from the virus and wicket-keeping is a specialized job. If Saha wasn’t fit in time, we would have needed a second keeper in the squad for the tour which is a three-month-long one," the source said.
KS Bharat is has done decently in the domestic stages as he averages more than 50 in all leagues. He also scored a triple hundred in Ranji Trophy in 2015. On the other hand, BCCI have made all the arrangements for the players to undergo three RT-PCR tests before joining at Mumbai on Wednesday.
