WATCH: Andre Russell opens his account with a maximum against Kagiso Rabada
The much anticipated T20I series commenced on 26th June at National Cricket Stadium, Grenada. The stakes always remain high whenever these two top T20 sides meet. Once again, the game delivered up to the expectations for the viewers as it was full of entertainment.
Winning the toss, West Indies invited the visitors to bat first. Fortunately, the decision turned out to be good as they were able to restrict Proteas for just 160 for 6 at the end of the first innings. South Africa openers got a good start but they couldn't capitalize on the momentum. Van der Dussen scored an unbeaten 56 off just 38 deliveries with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes. De Kock also scored 37 off 24 balls but other batsmen failed miserably.
Fabian Allen was the best bowlers for the hosts as he took 2 wickets conceding only 18 runs off his 4 overs of quota. DJ Bravo picked 2 wickets while Holder and Russell had 1 wicket each in their bags. Coming to bat, West Indies never looked out of the game, thanks to their incredible batting unit.
West Indies openers were smashing South African bowlers all-round the park. They were looking unstoppable until Lungi Ngidi ran out Andre Fletcher on 30 runs. Even with the fall of a wicket, Caribbean batsmen didn't stop their brutal hitting and chased down the target in just 15 overs at the loss of 2 wickets. Top scorer Evin Lewis was awarded as Player of the Match for his 71 off 35 deliveries with the help of 4 fours and 7 sixes.
On the other hand, Chris Gayle scored an unbeaten 32 off 24 and Andre Russell smashed 23 runs off just 12 who also remained not out. Tabraiz Shamsi who dismissed Evin Lewis was the only successful bowler for his side. Not wrong to say but the current T20 world champions made it a one-sided game as they never seemed to be out of the game.
Six off the first ball - What a way Andre!
What gathered the attention of the netizens was the ball that Andre Russell sent over the ropes. It was his first delivery of the game and what a way to kick off. He is well known for his incredible hitting and he has shown it time and time again. What makes it more special that he hit Kagiso Rabada for a six off his very first ball. Rabada is a very quality bowler and he had the upper hand whenever these two giants met in the cash-rich league of India.

The second T20I game of the 5 match series will be played on 27th June. It would be keen to see if the visitors can bounce back to beat this tough side full of T20 stars. On the other hand, the hosts will not mind playing their natural game and set a good rhyme for the upcoming mega event later this year.
