WATCH: Shubman Gill hits 'Shot of the Tournament' against Natarajan
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) kicked off their 2021 campaign against well balanced Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday. Winning the toss, David Warner led SRH invited KKR to bat first. KKR named Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan ahead of their regular starter Sunil Narine.
It's always important for any team to start well in the tournament in order to get the momentum and bank on that to hold a strong position. Last year KKR finished at No. 4, just below RCB's net run rate due to which they couldn't proceed into the next stages of the cash-rich league. However, this time KKR started their innings well as Nitish Rana hit the very first ball of the innings for a four against Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Last season KKR had only one 50+ opening partnership in 14 games. However, this time they have already got one in the very first game as Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana added 53 runs for the first wicket. Gill gave away his wicket to Rashid Khan when he was batting on 15 while Rana carried on his start to score a brilliant fifty. He scored 80 runs off 56 deliveries which helped his team.
Rahul Tripathi who came to bat at No. 3 added 59 runs off just 29 deliveries. On the other hand, Andre Russell and Eoin Morgan failed to contribute as they got out for 5 and 2 respectively. KKR posted a mammoth total of 187, thanks to a fiery knock of Dinesh Karthik who scored unbeaten 22 off just 9 deliveries with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes. Afghanistan duo Rashid and Nabi took 2 wickets each.
Shubman Gill hits Shot of the Tournament
Out of this eventful innings, what caught the attention of the netizens was Shubman Gill's no-look six. On the first ball of 5th over, Gill hit a beautiful six against T Natarajan who bowled his first ball of the match. Gill didn't give him the time to settle as they sent his first delivery out of the rope for a biggie. Gill didn't even look at the shot and that shows the confidence he puts in his shots.

Chennai has always been a pitch that helps spinners and also a slow track. 188 target is a big total on the board and it would be keen to see if SRH can chase it down. They have got a couple of clean match-winners in the batting department and if any of those posts a big score then it should not an issue for them.
